Bereavement Leave

When a death occurs in a family, it is often unexpected and may not align with a team member’s available time off. While SCC provides all-inclusive paid time off plans (ETO and PTO), we recognize that certain losses in one’s immediate family may require a team member to handle arrangements and care for their loved one. For the purposes of this policy, “immediate family” includes a spouse, domestic/civil union partner, child, parent, sibling, or other if required by law.

This policy is not intended to assign value to one relationship over another. Rather, it is an extension of our paid time off plans, designed to support team members who face the difficult responsibility of final planning without the added stress of financial burden. It also ensures that bereavement leave is administered fairly and consistently across the organization.

Full-time and part-time team members who experience the loss of an immediate family member are eligible for up to three consecutive workdays of paid leave, not exceeding their regularly scheduled hours, to attend to obligations and commitments. This time should be recorded in Workday as Bereavement Pay.

Team members should inform their supervisor before beginning bereavement leave. Southwest Care Center reserves the right of verification of the relationship when administering this policy.
